CLOUDS OF HOPE
We have supported the Clouds of Hope ‚children’s care centre‘ since its inception. The micro village, located in Underberg, consists of 12 family houses, an administration building, and a multi-purpose building. The property also holds the Halfway house and the Future Compass. It is home to up to 80 children and youth who either do not have family, or cannot live with theirs. Clouds of Hope ensures that the children can grow up safely protected and guided by loving house moms and a warm community. They provide psychological and academic support, sporting activities, music and much more. We support where help is needed, primarily regarding school education, and are fully responsible for the mobility of all projects.
Zesizwe Mncwabe, the director of the children’s village since 2019, is a highly qualified and experienced social worker, with additional psychological training. She was previously a house mom at the Halfway house, and has gained the trust and respect of the entire community.
Be Your Own Hero’s relationship with South Africa began in 2003, when while participating in the WORLD’S AIDS AWARENESS EXPEDITION, we came into contact with Sister Abigail, who was in charge of Clouds of Hope at the time. Initially contacts and funding were provided by Aidshilfe Wolfsburg and Joachim Franz, later by a team of volunteers, and from 2006 onwards BE YOUR OWN HERO e.V. took over the task. It has been a wonderful experience for all involved to partner the development process from what was once an old farmhouse, to today’s flourishing children’s village. The success in the project lies in collaboration, our steadfast commitment to supporting the South African Board of Directors and their large team of experts.
We would be delighted to attract more interested future project sponsors to support our diverse projects. Sponsors can choose where to focus their support. Tutoring, volunteering, grounds maintenance, garden design, house repairs and maintenance, further training for house moms, music lessons, project trips and media work are just a few examples of the diverse tasks for which we need the support of sponsors.
